Energy and Carbon Management (ECMR)
Gain an introduction to building science and building systems engineering focused on energy analysis and retrofits. You will learn elements of building construction and thermal calculations as developed into energy audits. You will also be introduced to Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing (MEP) systems and equipment in buildings, as well as details of equipment and its operation and control, especially adjustments and retrofits for energy efficiency and carbon reduction. Learn how to prepare field sketches and measurements, draw simple system schematics, and gain technical writing skills. By the end of this course, you will have the knowledge to support energy audits, weatherization projects, building upgrades, and decarbonization work — emerging job-ready for roles in building performance, energy efficiency, weatherization, and HVAC.
Additional Info: Professional Certification: Upon program completion, students earn the CUNY BPL Energy Technician Certificate and Building Performance Institute’s Building Science Principles (BSP) Certificate.
