CEMI442  –  Suicide Prevention Skills for the Non-Counselor

It is an unfortunate reality that many people struggle with thoughts of suicide, and that some may even have a plan, means, and an intention. If we find ourselves in a situation where someone confides in us that they’re experiencing suicidal ideation or if we are noticing signs that make us concerned about someone’s well-being, we may feel unsure of how to provide the right kind of support. In this training, you will learn how to recognize suicide warning signs, develop skills and strategies to provide support to a person who is struggling, and gain information on how to access resources in a timely fashion. This training is designed specifically for non-counselors such as family members, partners, parents, peers, teachers, paraprofessionals, etc. You will:
    • Learn skills related to suicide prevention (i.e., risk assessment, support strategies, viable resources)
    • Gain confidence in your ability to provide support and minimize risk
    • Enhance your self-awareness in regards to internal dynamics as they apply to suicidal risk

CEPE261  –  Managing Conflict in the Workplace

Occasional conflict exists in every organization and relationship. Most of us learn how to respond to conflict at an early age, usually from watching those around us. Some of what we learned is effective, but some isn’t. Plus, regardless of how we elect to respond to a conflict, we also need to develop skills to support others in conflict as well. We will examine five different styles of conflict management to determine which is appropriate for a variety of situations. We will practice skills that allow us to shift styles as necessary, as well as a variety of techniques we can use to de-escalate conflict situations. You will:
