CEMI322  –  Customer Service in the Hospitality Industry

Opportunities abound in the hospitality industry- from hotel, casino and restaurant operations, to destination sites, and transportation companies. More entrepreneurial careers in beverage tasting rooms, food trucks, bed and breakfasts or an Air B&B business might be part of your career! Regardless of where you find employment, the one common critical skill for success is quality customer service. This course will be taught by Sue Stafford, Chair of our own Hotel and Restaurant Management program and former hospitality professional with Hilton, Marriott and Intercontinental hotel companies. Sue was also Regional Hotel Inspector for Condé Nast Publications, and a former owner, partner, and Vice President of Hospitality International Executive Search where she recruited and reorganized operational staff for a list of clients that included most major hotel, restaurant, and food service companies. Topics will include understanding Joe Pine's "Experience Economy", and how we create authentic experiences for our guests. We will also explore the art of the heart-anticipating and providing for our guests’ unique needs through active listening and handling inquiries to build stronger customer relationships and loyalty. Finally, we will learn about recognizing a customer complaint as the gift that it is. Take your heart of service to new heights and be at your best in a successful guest service career!
